Twitter Helps 'Time' Mag Pick Person of the Year

Aiming to score some publicity as well as crowdsourcing, Time magazine is teaming up with Twitter to choose its Person of the Year.

Using Poptip to gather the tweets, the publication will be assessing tips from readers that contain the hashtag #TIMEPOY. The public has until Dec. 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET to get in their suggestions. Despite the mechanism, the vote will not be based on the amount of tweets a single entrant gets. Instead, the editors at Time will independently choose its honoree

Time will also share Vine videos of a few contenders and feature some fans' posts on Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs will announce the Person of the Year on NBC's Today on Dec. 11 Read more...
