If you have enquired about a 'Make Money Online' opportunity you may have been bombarded with emails or posts regarding internet marketing offers which show you pictures of people sitting by the beach under palm trees in the sunshine enjoying life with a big house with a swimming pool to go home to and the latest prestigious cars.

You can usually find these in the Business Opportunity sections in newspapers and on the internet.

Internet marketing is not easy and if anybody tells you it is then they may not be telling the truth. There is a lot to learn. There is a learning curve which is where most people get very frustrated and give up.

By the time most people acquire the skills to do what is needed they are probably so frustrated that they eventually get so bored and fed up with it that they give up.

There is a 'techy' stage most people go through on starting out. Many try and batter their way through it. If you find it frustrating that is something you will have to live with in the beginning.

Sounds like a great idea, then you have the task of getting customers or traffic as they call it.

You find out how difficult it is to do that. Yet more to learn.

Driving customers to your offers can be a major task in itself. You have to learn that most traffic is useless, it is not relevant, most people are just browsing and are not looking to buy anything.

You must find your target market.

Thousands of people may love to view your website and if you are paying to drive them there using advertising you can waste lots of money here. Hundreds of dollars can we spent easily. If you get a bit carried away it can mount up to thousands.

Trust me on this, I have learned the hard way and lost lots of money with paid advertising such as Pay Per Click(PPC). In hindsight, maybe it was good experience.

Lots of people will click on your ads just to pass the time away at your expense unless you target who gets to look at your ads.

Nowadays many people are using social networking sites to get free traffic. Paid adverting here can also be a lot cheaper.

A certain type of person will buy and you have to identify them. More skills to learn here.

Persuading people to buy something - another major task, it can be really frustrating if you get thousands of people to your website and nobody buys even the cheapest item.

If you think the above will be only moderately difficult, think again, for many it could be a nightmare.

There is a certain type of person who will jump into internet marketing and take to it with ease, but for 95% of us it will take a bit more effort, and could be a long slog to acquire the skills necessary to be a success.

But saying all this there are some good internet packages out there. If you dedicate yourself and find the right person for you who you identify with and persevere with it then you can be successful. It need not cost you much more than the start up cost.

Free, user-friendly blogging software has turned the Web into a virtual soapbox. but for everyone from lone individuals to small business owners to chief executives, writing a successful blog is about getting the word out there and actually being seen by people–and that means serving readers, not bombarding them with marketing material.

The most significant way to develop a loyal online following is by creating useful content that readers will consume and share. “When blogging, too many people make the mistake of talking about themselves or their offering,” says Dharmesh Shah, the founder and chief technology officer of the all-in-one marketing software company HubSpot and the author of Inbound Marketing: Get found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs. “That is self-defeating. If your content is overly self-promotional, it is unlikely to spread via social media, and your blog is unlikely to gain an audience. When writing a blog, the key idea is to create content that other people will want to read and spread. Don’t talk about yourself. Talk instead about your industry or area of expertise.”

In Pictures: 10 Ways to Make your Blog Get Real Attention

Determine the purpose of your blog and stick with it. start by defining for yourself what readers you want to serve, and then build a strategy about how to reach them. “Be true to the goals you set out for your blog: are you providing product information?  are you provoking conversation?  are you commenting on trending topics?  all approaches are valid but you need to determine what the value is that you will provide to your audience and continue to deliver that value,” says Mike Merriman, director of strategic consulting at Mzinga, a social services and software firm.  If a blog post isn’t useful or worth sharing, it won’t produce much value for any reader or for the blogger himself.

Leverage social media. Make the most of social media by including “Share” on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, and StumbleUpon buttons on your blog. “The easier you make it for people to share your content with their network, the more likely they are to do so,” says Shah. “It’s a one-time investment to configure your blog to include these social media buttons–but the dividends pay off forever.”

Make sure your content is SEO-friendly. Get smart about search engine optimization. Identify the key words for searching for a posting’s subject matter, and think about the best way to incorporate those search terms into the title and body of the post.

Shah says that the earlier in any sequence of words those keywords appear, the stronger the signal Google will receive. for example, “Hiring a Patent Attorney: seven things to Look For” will rank better than “Seven things to Look for When Hiring a Patent Attorney,” because the desired keywords, “patent attorney,” come earlier in the sequence. Shah recommends keeping every blog title to under 120 characters, so that readers can easily tweet it.

The single strongest variable in Google rankings is the number and authority of sites that link to a posting. “The more powerful the website that links to you, the stronger the influence on Google, and the better the rankings,” says Shah. The more useful your content is, the greater your chances that other sites will link to it.

Be a part of the conversation, both on your blog and of others in your industry. Drive traffic to other blogs, and respond as much as you can to both negative and positive comments about your own blog. If you allow commenting on your blog, be sure to have the resources to handle negative feedback. If you don’t enable comments, be prepared for the conversation to pop up elsewhere online.

“People are talking about your company or your products whether you like it or not,” Merriman says. “Blogging, as a component of a proactive social business strategy, offers an effective capability for company leaders to engage in the conversations and helps create the opportunity for a vibrant exchange of information and ideas with prospective and existing customers.”

We have now entered the world of blogs! Sounds kind of Harry Potterish, doesn't it?

If you're over 20 years old, you probably think this is some crazy sci-fi phenomenon, or I've simply lost my mind. Don't fret, the vast majority of people don't know what a blog is all about and more importantly, why it matters to them.

If you're under 20 you can stop reading because you probably know all about blogs, and the value they have in sharing information. You've been trading game-breaking codes, South Park clips, and jokes through blogs for months now or maybe even years.

In a recent article, Johnson Ong quips "I have a blog. Doesn't everyone? You mean you don't? How uncool are you? According to Merriam-Webster, 'blog' was the word of the year last year. Not having your own blog is like not having your own Gmail account. What? You don't have Gmail either? My God, what are you? A caveman!"

Over or under, cool or uncool, I want to address blogs from a business standpoint, and the tremendous value they can deliver to business. There are several reasons that developing a blog is a tremendous strategy for any business.

1) It will increase your web presence significantly the search engines love blogs!

2) It will allow your business to educate customers and prospects about certain subjects, and appear as experts

3) It will raise your business profile with your vendors and other strategic partners, if they are invited to contribute to your blog

4) Other blogs can, and will, take information from your blog, and you will increase your exposure to anyone that participates in the 'taking' blog

5) Blogs accept subscribers, and everyone that subscribes to your blog will be constantly updated (pinged) by you with current information

So What is It?

The full name for a blog is a weblog. It's a repository for articles, newsletters, information, and discussion boards. It's like a 'what's new' page on the internet in whatever subject you choose. When people research any topics that you have on your blog, they may very well end up on your blog through their search. If you've done it right, your blog is of course, fully branded to your company, and linked to your main website.

If you keep current articles, and information on your blog, you will receive hits from people looking for information about those subjects. You will also receive hits from other blogs, and they will then distribute your information to their own audiences.

You will receive hits from contributors of articles or news items, as well as people looking for those particular contributors through a search engine.

Hopefully, you get the picture. Your web traffic should increase exponentially through the proper use of a blog.

Business Blogs

Business blogs have yet to sweep the business community, which presents a significant opportunity to adapt the technology to any business. It will allow you to share expertise and knowledge with a much larger audience, which should create a significant benefit.

There is specific blogging software, and you will have to learn how to create an effective and valuable blog. You will also have to learn how to acquire and produce current industry information to populate your blog with articles that will maintain interest and value. Yes, there is an element of work to it you didn't think it was free, with no effort required, like the mumps did you?

As you add current information to your subject area, or to secondary subject areas that you may include in your blog, your chances of more hits are higher. If you continually contribute self-generated articles and news items to the appropriate subject areas, your chances also increase. In addition, there are sources that allow you to publish their materials, which can be used to increase the value of the blog, and therefore the likelihood of being found on the good old inter-web.

So How Does It Work?

If you still push the Pause/Break button in the upper right-hand corner of your keyboard to request permission from your boss for a visit to the bathroom, you can skip this part. Otherwise, it's really not too hard to follow.

Without getting too technical, there are many web robots (bots), crawlers, and spiders, and similar technologies that have RSS Reader capability. That's the stuff that is specific to blogs. They are basically looking for news, and blogs have that news.

If you do it right, these bots, crawlers, and spiders find your blog, and send information elsewhere, which is just what you want. Your blog is basically yelling at these web 'beasts' to "come on in and take this great stuff I've got."

For example, these web 'animals' include yahooslurp, googlebot, feedstercrawler, pubsub, syndic8, msnbot, newsgator, CP30, & R2D2.

O.K., the last two were Luke Skywalker's buddies, but the rest are real.

It will take 4 to 6 weeks for the search engines to adjust rankings but the ultimate result will be that you will progress up the ladder in the engines in the various topic areas that you feature. When people are searching for technologies or subjects that are being discussed in your blog, they will find you on the search engines.

That should be a hint that you should have content on your blog about the subjects that are most often searched.

When a subject is searched that is covered by one of your branded, self-generated articles, your fully branded information may be pulled to another blog, or to a specific person doing a search in that topic area. You can post that same article on your website, and it won't go anywhere. However, on your blog it gets a shot of super juice, and may just get pushed through any number of doors.

Linking The Benefits Increase Your Brand

When website owners and bloggers (yeah, I'm now a blogger!) think of linking, they are usually referring to inbound links from external websites and blogs. For example, if you had a link to your website on the website of another business.

While adding more inbound links on external sites is important, there is also a sort of 'reverse' link strategy associated with blogs.

Your blog's incoming links will provide another benefit when someone is referred to an article in your blog from another website. For example, through GooglePageRank, the receiving page (you) gets a boost up the search engine when that happens, which helps the blog overall by boosting the popularity of the blog, which in turn is what increases the search results, which in turn drives up the search engine rankings.

What!? I wrote it and I have to read it six times to really follow what I'm saying.

Basically, the more people that visit your blog when they come from other sources, the more likely it is for people to find you when searching for a whole myriad of topics. That type of benefit does not exist with normal website traffic, because those visits don't effect web site rankings on the search engines. But blog traffic that is through a link from another site will drive you up the search engines. There that's much more clear!? As clear as fog in a low-lying bog. Ouch!

Web designer Sue Studios says; "Blogs are highly strategic, here-to-stay desktop tools that can strengthen relationships, share knowledge, increase collaboration, and improve branding. Think of the potential for your e-newsletter strategies:

1) Articles within newsletters can be linked to a blog, extending life and creating a massive conversation

2) You can offer a bi-directional forum to customers to get true, personal opinion on your products and services

3) Company experts can start a blog and become industry experts, helping your company edge out competition and, through this interactive forum, draw customers into another exchange of information and thoughts."

Well, it's snowing out so I think I'll go blogging! Wait, is that something you do in the snow, or is it something you do to stay out of the snow?!

Or is it a Celtic dance? Or should the Steelers have blogged that kick Sunday? I'm confused.

How Do I get what I know on paper to help people learn how to make money without costing them a lot of money? I Think I will try starting by talking about Google and Yahoo since they are two of the bigger search engines out today. Google is a great source to go to and make a lot of money.

I have been learning Affiliate Marketing for two years and I still am not where I want to be but I have tried these strategies and Mann they really work. So enough about me
I can't wait to tell as many as I can. I am going to share things that will help you make money by saving money.

What I mean is that by not spending money on advertising than you don't have an overhead and you save money. I have three main factors that will help you do this.

First thing to do is to write and submit. You're probably asking what does this mean. What I am trying to tell you is that you should Wright an article and submit it to several articles based sites. Some are really great and easy to use and submit to and will give a great return. Here are a few 1. EzineArticles.com, 2.Goarticles.com, & 3. Searchwarp which are all great article directory sites and Google love them for content.

Second, you should look up words using this system and you can find better optimized words that get decent traffic and not a lot of competition from other sites.
You can find that if you take "quotes" and I will show you in detail when you visit my site. You put the "quotes" in and you will get back a better response and better optimizable key word list.

Third, you should do you title optimization just as you would when optimizing your website. The title is just as important as it is in your website. It will help place the article where you want it to be placed in the search engines and bring people to your
Site. I will cover all this in my upcoming e-book "A Poor Mans Way to Wealth".

I hope this helped get some ideals to get your sites out there and seen and get links back to your site. So, you have a blog! Do you have traffic? Do you know how to build traffic to your weblog? There are seven proven methods for building readership of your blog. They start with defining the purpose, or life, of your blog. Then, after you have a blog worth promoting, driving traffic is crucial to your ongoing success at blogging.

Here are seven tips to help you build and hold an audience for your blog:

Tip #1: Provide quality content.

On the Internet, whether you are talking about websites or blogs, a lot of space is given to content. Everyone directs you to provide quality content. But, what is quality content? The quality of your blog's content is directly related to how well you have defined your ideal audience.

A successful blog is written with a distinct audience in mind. In this way, you can provide content that is unique to your audience's issues, needs, or desires. If you create content they like and wish to return to read, you have quality content.

The second issue is to stay true to your audience and tone of your blog. If people are reading your blog, it's because they like your topic and tone. Try not to stray from your typical topics and style too much. This will give your readers a reason to link back to your blog on an ongoing basis, as will posting on a regular basis.

Tip #2: Blog regularly

A blogroll is a listing of other blogs. Think of it as a "recommended reading list". Don't be stingy with your blog roll either. Add those blogs that you read and enjoy to your blogroll too.

Tip #5: Think keywords when you post

When you do submit your blog to these directories, remember to add a description that will entice your targeted audience to check your blog out. For instance, when I post my blog in blog directories, under description I put "General musings, rants, advice and strategies from a battle-worn veteran of the Marketing Wars, online and off". Your description should help the potential reader understand your blogging topic and the flavor of how you write.

In addition to submitting your blog to blog directories, join a few of the free or inexpensive traffic exchange sites like blogexplosion or blogclicker.

Tip #7: Use free and inexpensive blog traffic exchange communities

There are many sites which can be termed "traffic exchange" sites for the blogging community. It won't cost you anything to sign up. At the very least, join blogexplosion, blogclicker, and blogazoo. Once you sign up, you have two options to help drive traffic to your blog. Use both of them!

The first method is to earn credits (guaranteed visitors to your site) by using the "surf member sites" function. As you surf through those sites, you will be earning credits (visitors to your blog). When you find an interesting post, leave a comment as discussed above. When you find a blogger you like, add them to your blogroll and let them know you did.

Making Money From Advertising

If you look at many websites, you will probably notice that there are banner advertisements displayed on most pages. If you are a newcomer to the scene, you might think that you must either be a company or that your site must be famous before you can get advertisers, just as it is the case in hardcopy publications.

In reality, anyone with a website can get advertisers. While it is true that if your site is well-known, you may get companies contacting you to offer to advertise on your site, you can get advertising revenue even if you are just starting out and your site is relatively unknown.

The way to do this is to join as an "affiliate" of various sites, either directly, or through an affiliate network. An affiliate network is simply an intermediary where you can select from a variety of advertisers.

Payment Schemes

Before joining any program, you should probably be aware of the different payment schemes available.

Pay Per Impression

Here, you are paid according to the number of times the advertiser's banner is displayed on your site. The amount you earn is typically calculated based on the number of thousand impressions of the banner (impressions = number of times the banner is displayed), often abbreviated CPM (cost per thousand, with the M being the Latin numeral for thousand). That is, $5 CPM means that you get paid $5 for 1,000 displays of the banner. In general, the amount paid is usually small, but it is easy to earn since everytime a visitor loads the page, you earn. This is known as a "high conversion rate". Needless to say, this method will allow you to automatically earn more if your site attracts a lot of visitors.

Pay Per Click

When you are paid per click, you are only paid when visitors click the advertiser's banner on your site. The amount paid is usually higher than the pay per impression scheme. Whether you get a high conversion rate here depends on the banner (whether it attracts people to click it), although in general, it has a higher conversion rate than the pay per sale method. A high traffic site will probably enjoy a higher click rate than a lower traffic site, although you will probably get better results if your banners are carefully selected to suit the target audience of your site.

Pay Per Sale or Lead

While you will probably get the highest payment rates with this method, it has the lowest conversion rate of the three schemes. You will only earn if your visitors click through the banner and either purchase an item from the advertiser or take some other prescribed action (eg, sign up for a service). Like the Pay Per Click method, you get much better results if you carefully select your advertisers to suit the target audience of your site.

In general, to avoid wasting resources in issuing cheques for very small amounts, advertisers will usually accrue the amount owing to you until it reaches a certain level (such as $25) before they pay you.

Where to Find Affiliate Programs

To join an affiliate network or program, simply go to the site and complete their online application form. Some programs will give you instant approval while others require a human to check out your application before it is approved. Once it is approved, you'll be given some HTML code which you can cut and paste into your web page. Note that some affiliate networks and programs will not accept you unless you have a domain name.

How To Choose An Affiliate Program

How should you choose an affiliate program? My suggestion is not to choose a program according to the payment scheme, but rather according to the kind of people who are likely to visit your website. For example, if you are targeting parents on your site, links to affiliates with educational software, books and the like may generate more revenue than banners that link to web hosting companies. The most important rule of choosing an affiliate program is to know your target audience.

Another point to consider is whether you really want to join every single affiliate program that comes your way. Some studies suggest that sites that make the most money from affiliate programs are affiliates of only a small handful of programs. Furthermore, concentrating your advertisements from one network may allow you to be paid faster. If you advertise for hundreds of different affiliate networks on your site, you may wind up earning only (say) a few dollars per month from each network. If your advertiser's minimum payment amount is higher than what you can earn each month, it may take you a long time before you accrue enough to be paid.

On the other hand, that formula does not necessarily hold true for every site (or every page on your site, for that matter). For example, if your site has a particular theme, and an affiliate network only supports one or two suitable advertisers, you might want to sign up for a few affiliate networks so as to get a greater number of relevant advertisers. After all, advertisements that are relevant to your audience are more likely to be taken up than general advertisements. (What's the point of putting banners from only one affiliate if nobody is going to click them?)

It happens all the time. You think you have found the perfect online business opportunity and you quickly join up, with visions of finally making money online. The hurt of losing either money from your pocket, or not getting paid the money you earned can be devastating. What is happening here is a loss of trust and and of money. I am going to share a few tips on how you can survive this type of online scam.

Surviving any online scam that cost you money may cripple your ability to either do business online or offline in the future. We all survive and live through our abilities to trade. In doing our jobs, we trade time for money. Online, we trade our time and expertise for money. If you are going to continue making money online, you really have no choice but to survive a scam that is perpetrated on you. Let us see how it is done.

First, my story. I joined an affiliate program with a very popular guy in the Internet Marketing circles some years ago. This was around 2002. He had a number of popular products, and I found out that with little effort, I was able to earn around $400.00 in affiliate commission quickly. But the wait for his commission quickly turned from gleeful anticipation to jarring disappointment. He was not paying. Pretty soon I found out that he had 'locked shop' and disappeared with all the commissions owed to me and most of his other affiliates. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

Here is the best tip to survive an online scam like this. Don't trust individuals with no proven history, to manage your money for you. Whether as an affiliate owner or investor, people can go bad quickly. Actually they were crooks all along, you just did not know it at the time. Instead of relying on affiliate programmes managers I don't know, I now work with proven companies that have a solid history, such as ClickBank LinkShare, and Commission junction.

Another lesson you can take away from an online scam, and still be brave enough to make money online, is to learn the lesson quickly and move on. I can honestly say that I have forgiven this fellow and I'm so over it. But I am no longer crippled by this. I am a better marketer and a better person in all of this. Even when you work hard for your money, you can still fall victim to crooked characters online.

Limit your exposure by simply not dealing with someone without recourse. Using payment processors like PayPal and Credit cards can limit your exposures. Sending money by money-transfer services to strangers is just plain silly.
